The Manager Recap: A “British-Korean” Influencer and a Surprisingly Relatable Actor

MBC’s variety show The Manager (also known as Omniscient Interfering View) delivered a fun mix of laughs and heart in its latest episode—thanks to influencer Baek Jin-kyung and actor Lee Sang-yoon.

Baek Jin-kyung: “Honorary British”… but still very Korean

Baek Jin-kyung is known for witty content about British culture and pronunciation. She’s also recognized for breaking new ground in the UK as an Asian plus-size model. In the episode, she shared an update about her life after returning to Korea with her husband, Rohan—an Englishman she met on a dating app and dated for three years before marriage.

Rohan, who works as an actor, came across as sweet and thoughtful. He enjoys K-dramas and is even studying Korean, which instantly made viewers curious about their couple dynamic.

But despite Baek’s “honorary British” image, her everyday habits revealed a funny twist. Her manager joked that Baek sometimes seems confused about whether she’s Korean or British—and the episode showed why. She keeps an eco-friendly, UK-style mindset… yet hits the gym for heavy lifting while listening to classic Korean ballads. The contrast was comedy gold.

Her alter ego “Isabel” stole the spotlight

Baek also appeared as her character “Isabel” on an MBC content channel segment. She playfully pointed out announcers’ pronunciation mistakes and spoke with bold honesty, making the character even more memorable.

One especially funny moment? A cast member got unusually invested in the scene—turning red and making everyone laugh even more.

A chaotic (and hilarious) English showdown over afternoon tea

Later, Baek filmed YouTube content and met Gabee (often called “Queen Gabee”). The two jokingly competed over English pronunciation and “British vibes,” then immediately got humbled by one simple thing: they weren’t sure how to eat afternoon tea properly, so they asked the staff.

After all the English back-and-forth, the biggest punchline landed—both were actually from Korea (Baek from Ansan, Gabee from Suwon). And when Gabee asked for an iced Americano, Baek dramatically declared, “We’re done,” ending the shoot like a true content pro.

Lee Sang-yoon: Lazy at home, intense on stage

Actor Lee Sang-yoon’s segment showed a completely different side from his usual “smart, perfect guy” image. At home, he struggled to get out of bed, delayed basic chores, left laundry sitting around, and got absorbed in games. Even his “dream study room” looked more like a pile-up of scripts, books, invitations, and bills.

But once rehearsal began, he transformed.

Lee is currently performing in the play Turing Machine, based on the life of genius mathematician Alan Turing. The script is packed with long lines and complex math terms, and Lee’s preparation was serious—down to detailed notes and even studying the original French version to fully understand difficult expressions.

The emotional moment: “Finish it to the end”

The most touching part came when Lee shared a lesson that stayed with him for life.

He explained that he once considered giving up on finishing university to focus on acting—but legendary actor the late Lee Soon-jae advised him with words that hit hard: the experience of finishing something to the end can change your life.

That advice helped Lee complete his degree in physics at Seoul National University, and the story added a meaningful layer to his journey as an actor.

What’s next on The Manager?

Next week’s preview teased an animal-content creator with massive views, showing a full day of rescuing and caring for abandoned dogs and cats—plus a segment where another celebrity takes on an “all clean” challenge with help from a cleaning expert.

The Manager (Omniscient Interfering View) airs every Saturday at 11:10 PM on MBC.
