Kerri Strug Biopic “Perfect” Canceled After Millie Bobby Brown Exits Netflix Project

The planned Kerri Strug biopic titled Perfect is no longer moving forward after Millie Bobby Brown reportedly left the film.

According to Deadline, the Stranger Things actress, 22, exited the Netflix sports drama due to creative differences with the producers. Soon after her departure, the project was scrapped.

Representatives for Brown, Netflix, and Strug have not publicly commented.

What “Perfect” Was Supposed to Be About

The film Perfect was set to tell the story of American Olympic gymnast Kerri Strug, focusing on her push to compete despite a serious injury at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics. The storyline would have centered on Strug fighting through pain in a critical moment to help secure a gold medal for Team USA.

Strug, now 48, was part of the legendary U.S. women’s gymnastics team known as “The Magnificent Seven.” She became a lasting Olympic symbol after landing a vault with an injured ankle—an image that ended with coach Béla Károlyi carrying her away as the team’s victory was sealed.

Directors and Writers Attached Before the Cancellation

The project went through several behind-the-scenes changes during development. Gia Coppola was originally connected to direct, and later Cate Shortland was brought in to helm the film. Screenwriters John P. Lopez and Ronnie Sandahl were also reportedly involved.

Despite the strong subject matter and high-profile casting, the movie ultimately did not survive the creative split.

Millie Bobby Brown’s Next Netflix Projects

Even though the Kerri Strug movie has been canceled, Millie Bobby Brown remains closely tied to Netflix. After the final season of Stranger Things is expected to wrap up in late 2025, Brown will continue working with the streamer on multiple new titles.

Her upcoming Netflix projects include:

  • Enola Holmes 3, which she is set to star in and produce
  • Romantic comedy Just Picture It, co-starring Gabriel LaBelle
  • A screen adaptation of Nineteen Steps, based on Brown’s debut novel released in 2023

Personal Update

Brown recently marked her 22nd birthday surrounded by friends and family, alongside her husband Jake Bongiovi, whom she married in May 2024. Reports also note the couple adopted their first child, a daughter, in the summer of 2025.
