Hwang Shin-hye Talks About Single Life After Divorce: “The Answer Is Not Dating” (KBS Park My Life Together)

This is a review article written after watching the broadcast.

Actress Hwang Shin-hye shared her simple, honest views about dating and single life on KBS1’s reality talk show “Hwang Shin-hye’s Park My Life Together” (같이삽시다).

Han Groo Appears as the First Guest

On the episode aired on the 21st, the first guest was Han Groo, an idol-turned-actress. Wanting to treat the cast, she personally went grocery shopping and said she would cook for the “unnie” (older sisters).

Han Groo described her cooking style casually:
“I only cook as much as I do for my kids. I just do it by eye and throw things together.”

Home-Style Meal: Seaweed Soup, Japchae, and More

Han Groo prepared a warm, classic homemade spread, including:

  • Miyeok-guk (seaweed soup)
  • Japchae (stir-fried glass noodles)
  • Almond anchovy stir-fry

The cast loved it. Jang Yoon-jung said it tasted “so good,” adding that it was mild and comfortable to eat. Hwang Shin-hye also praised the food, saying it was “really delicious.”

Han Groo Opens Up About Being a Single Mom

Han Groo revealed she is raising her children as a single mother. Hwang Shin-hye asked how the kids accepted the divorce.

Han Groo explained that she talked to them naturally and consistently, so they wouldn’t feel anxious. She told them:

  • A “blood family” can’t be separated.
  • Mom and dad can’t separate from the kids because they’re family by blood.
  • But mom and dad were originally strangers to each other, so they became “friends again.”
  • There are many different kinds of families in the world.
  • Her children are lucky because they can still spend time with both parents together.

Teaching Independence from Age Six

Han Groo also shared that when her kids were around six, she started teaching them to do basic things on their own—brushing teeth, washing up, and getting dressed. She said it wasn’t because of some big philosophy—she was simply exhausted raising two kids alone.

Now, she believes it was a good decision.

Hwang Shin-hye reacted warmly and told her she was doing great at parenting, then jokingly asked:
“Are you going to have one more?”

The Hard Part: Telling Parents About Divorce

Jang Yoon-jung said that for her, it was hard not only to explain divorce to the children, but also to tell her own parents. She asked Han Groo when she told hers.

At that moment, Jung Ga-eun appeared emotional and tried to hold back tears.

Han Groo answered calmly that she told her parents after everything was already decided, saying she felt sorry about it.

“I Didn’t Want to Fight During the Divorce”

Han Groo emphasized that she absolutely didn’t want to fight with her children’s father during the process. She explained this came from her own upbringing—she grew up in a single-parent home and didn’t see her father often, which left her with resentment. Because of that, she promised herself she wouldn’t create the same pain for her children.

She added that she avoided arguments, especially because disputes could easily happen over things like money.

Han Groo also shared that her mother seemed to already sense it, saying:
“You’re trying to get divorced, aren’t you?”

The cast responded that parents often know by watching their child.

Hwang Shin-hye on Dating After Divorce

Hwang Shin-hye asked Han Groo whether her view of men changed after divorce. Han Groo said that before, she liked men who made her emotionally “ache” or worry, but now she looks for someone with a kind heart.

Han Groo then asked the older cast members whether they still think about dating.

Hwang Shin-hye replied that she isn’t completely closed off to romance, but:

  • Single life is too comfortable
  • The older you get, the fewer people there are to meet
  • Han Groo is still young, so she can still try

When Han Groo said she still believes she must truly like someone to date them, Hwang Shin-hye answered brightly:
“Not dating is the answer.”
